Writing for game companies

Between 2018 and 2024 I wrote for US game companies including: Big Fish Games, 3 Minute Games and Tales Inc. The money was pretty good (around $500 USD/chapter). Much higher and more consistent pay than I've ever had for short fiction and non-fiction in the past.
I'm taking a break from it for now however, due to the high attrition rate of new game platforms. It's incredibly frustrating to see years of work simply disappear due to a decision made by a game executive I'll probably (definitely) never meet.
I still hold the scripts for some of the games I wrote during this period, such as Darkendore and Cat's Claw. So if someone reading this knows of an engine I can plug them into without much effort, please get in touch.
Working collaboratively with art and production teams on my ideas was a great experience and is something I would definitely revisit if I could be assured the platform would exist for more than a year or two after launch. As it is however, I'm not sure anyone is likely to offer such a guarantee.

So, for now I'm returning to regular fiction, although not so much for the anthology market anymore. The type of stories I want to write are too involved for a 5,000 to 8,000 word format, which will no-doubt be a barrier to getting published going forward.
Still, there's nothing wrong with giving it a go.
